Thirsty Thursday: The Intox-Detox Mojito

mojito sugar-free

It’s thirsty Thursday again and we’ve been on a rum kick. Last week it was re-imagining the classic New Orleans cocktail THE HURRICANE (see recipe here). We cut the sugars by one-fourth (even gave a sugar-free option, aside from the rum that is) and cut the calories by half. And all without losing any of the flavor. We even added some healthy antioxidants like pomegranate, acai and the coffee fruit extract in the excellent Bai 5 Bubbles drinks. Of course, we also taught you how to make a “Bermuda Triangle Hurricane” by floating some 151 on top. Deadly, but delicious…you’ll definitely want to pick up some Intox-Detox here… (save 35% with code “hangoverssuck35”)

This week it’s sugar-free Mojitos for a taste of that Miama-Cuban vice. Crisp, minty, refreshing and without all the extra sugar to make your hangover awful. It’s also diet-friendly, so you won’t be working off a few drinks this weekend for weeks to come.

Sugar-Free Mojitos Intox-Detox Style

Bai 5 bubbles lemon

Ingredients:

  • 1 to 1 1/2 oz Cruzan light rum
  • 1/2 Lime juice (fresh-squeezed or not from concentrate)
  • Zevia Lemon-Lime or Bai 5 Bubbles Sulawesi Limon
  • La Croix Lime
  • 8 to 10 mint leaves
  • 3 lime wedges
  • 2 packs Truvia

Prep:

Muddle 2 lime wedges with the mint leaves for a minute or two. Add 2  packs of Truvia and lime juice and muddle a little more. Pour one splash of Zevia or Bai 5 Bubbles until it sizzles to bring out the flavors. Add ice to the top of a tall glass and pour in rum. Fill with half and half La Croix Lime and the Zevia or Bai to the top. Stir or toss lightly in shaker cup. Garnish with remaining lime wedge and a sprig of mint leaves. Enjoy in the sunshine with a few friends, preferably near a beach!

*Increase or decrease rum and lime to taste. Some like their drinks fresher or stronger than others.

*Create new fruit variations with other Zevia or Bai flavors like black cherry, strawberry, grapefruit or orange.

When it comes to amazing yet simple classic crafted cocktails, you can’t beat this virtually sugar-free mojito!

Don’t forget to take your Intox-Detox! It’s way easy to have a couple more of these than you expected!

Thirsty Thursday: The Intox-Detox Hurricane

hurricane intox detox style

WARNING: This drink will make you AWESOME in ways that you may not be prepared for. Tread carefully with the 151 (aka AB’s SRU knockout punch)…

Thirsty Thursday: The Intox-Detox Hurricane

It’s Thirsty Thirsty and we are back with another Intox-Detox spin on a classic cocktail. You see, here at Intox-Detox we know that artificial sweeteners, colors and sugars can make your hangover worse. While there is no true 100% hangover cure, (although we have a pretty bad ass product) the cumulative effect of doing a handful of things right can leave you feeling much better than you should the morning after a few drinks.

Last time we shared 5 Diet-Friendly cocktails, so check that out here… Today we are remaking the New Orleans classic with a couple of fresh, all-natural and lower-calorie/sugar twists…

The Hurricane Intox-Detox Style

pomegranate juice for antioxidants

Ingredients:

1 oz Cruzan Light rum

1 oz Dark rum (we like Goslings Black Rum for a kick!)

1/2 oz Lime juice

1 oz Fresh-squeezed orange juice* (or Trop 50)

2 oz Bai Bubbles Jamaican Blood Orange

1 oz Vitamin Shoppe Acai juice

2 oz Zevia Strawberry (or any Bai beverage)

1/2 oz POM pomegranate juice

2-3 packs Truvia

Orange wedge and cherry garnish

*CEO Plan – Float 1 shot of Bacardi 151 and a 1/2 shot of Tillman Bada Bing Cherry Juice (BEWARE!) This variant actually officially makes it a “Bermuda Triangle Hurricane” – beware!

*Both Cruzan and Black Seal rums come highly recommended from SeriousEats.com

*Use different Bai and Zevia flavors to tweak  and create different kinds of hurricanes!

Nutrient Facts:

Carbohydrates – 8

Sugars – 7 (entirely from juice)

Calories – 157

Compare that to the 32 grams of sugar and 339 calories you get from your normal hurricane. No wonder they got that name!  Not only did we more than cut the calories in half, we cut the sugar by a fourth (using only sugars from fresh juices) and loaded the drink with the antioxidants that help your body fight the damaging free radicals from alcohol. And, you’re welcome! The only way it could get any better is if you take Intox-Detox before your first drink. Also, consider this option…

No and Very Low-Calorie and Sugar Options

For a lower-sugar version, simply replace all juices with Zevia flavors. For example, use Zevia Orange, Strawberry. Black Cherry or any of the rainbow of delicious flavors they offer. You can also use any of the Bai or Bai Bubbles drinks, which contain only 1 gram of sugar per drink. Replace the juice in the drink with these low and no-calorie options and then simply squeeze a wedge of fresh orange on top. Ask any bartender; fresh makes the best drinks.

This option makes the drink only 125 calories and far better for those looking to avoid all sugars.

Prep:

Pour rum, lime and acai juice into a shaker. As for the orange juice, it’s best to squeeze it yourself. You don’t need a juicer (it would helps) or press. Do it the old school way and squeeze half an orange over your open palm with the fingers spread slightly and a bowl underneath. This way you can catch some of the pulp and seeds. You can always strain the final product if needed. We like pulp because it’s full of vitamin C and antioxidants; and when it comes to drinks fresher is always better. Optional: research “flavor packs” in the orange juice industry and you might invest in that juicer. In a pinch, you can use Trop 50 orange juice.

The last 3 ingredients create a grenadine substitute and there are many recipes out there that take forever. But I want my drink now! So combine the Zevia strawberry and POM in a coffee mug and heat for 15 to 20 seconds. Then stir in the Truvia until dissolved. Add the whole mix to the shaker with plenty of ice. Shaking the living hell out of the powder cold also works too! That’s my preferred method, rather than heating the liquids. Shake and strain into a large Hurricane glass filled with fresh ice. Garnish with orange and cherry.

Enjoy with friends, preferably near a beach! Don’t forget to take your Intox-Detox!

Labor Day-Drinking Tips to Avoid Hangover from Intox-Detox

labor-day-grill-full

How to Avoid the Hangover(s) This Labor Day Weekend…

(To hell with your blog post, just give me a FREE SAMPLE now…)

Fire, propane, UV rays, buy 2 get 1 free cases of beer and crazy Aunt Betty behind the bar – what could possibly go wrong this Labor Day weekend?

Hey, it’s AB here – taking a turn at this blogging thing. I know I can be long-winded at times. Hey, I researched this stuff for a long time and sometimes I forget that you didn’t! Instead I’m going to practice extreme restraint, leave out MOST of the science and just give you very straightforward tips to help avoid a HANGOVER this weekend.

Of course, I’m always going to recommend that you take Intox-Detox, the only Alcohol Detox & Recovery product on the market that contains the ONLY 2 INGREDIENTS clinically proven (and clinically dosed as well) to BOTH protect your liver and help you avoid the MISERY of the next morning.

(He’s done this before)

While it’s all true, let me dispense with the marketing and get to helping you avoid a hangover, even if you’re insane enough not to use Intox-Detox.

  1. Liquor (or Wine) Before Beer…

You know that old rhyme from the sea… “…you’re in the clear.” Well, I said it before and I’m saying it again: It’s true. Drinking ANY carbonation speeds up intoxication. Maybe you want that; in that case check out the awesome low and no-sugar drink recipes below. If you are going to have liquor or wine, make sure to do it before you drink a few beers. The carbonation makes the higher-concentrated alcohol in vino and the hard stuff absorb into your blood stream faster. That means a shorter night and a longer morning. No fun. However, starting with a stiff drink and then downshifting to a cold beer in the sunshine is both refreshing and a good idea. Beer contains  more water to keep you hydrated and slows down your drinking pace. It’s also American as Hell to drink beer anywhere near a grill.

2. Eat, Stupid!

Notice the artful placement of my comma above. Don’t eat stupid, Stupid. Sorry to call you that and a little Labor Day indulging is to be expected. I’m really talking to myself because no one is more guilty of this than I am. I get to talking and I just forget to eat. It’s really stupid. You get SPIFFED (to quote my favorite movie “Harvey”) and you end up in bed by 8 pm. It’s more fun to eat smart. Eating anything is better than nothing because the food in your stomach slows the absorption of the alcohol. However, think of it like this – food also contains natural ingredients that help you detox the alcohol and feel better the next day. That’s the whole premise behind Intox-Detox. Foods that contain B and C vitamins especially will help. Pardon the science, but anything that contains the amino acid L-glutathione or its precursor (L-cysteine) is a BIG HELP. Think red meat, onions, eggs with the yolks, asparagus, tomatoes and pretty much anything green. A quick scoop of whey protein if you have it in the house is very high in helpful amino acids.

3. Fats and Sugars

Speaking of L-glutathione, avocados are loaded with it. Not only that but, they are also a source of antioxidants and healthy fats, both of which will help you while drinking alcohol. Healthy fats like olive oil, egg yolks, fish oil, chia seeds and nuts slow the rate at which alcohol gets into your bloodstream. Eating them prior to drinking is one of the best ways to preempt a drinking session. On the other hand, sugars (especially refined ones) are the WORST possible thing. Sure, they make you fat. You can easily get 100 grams of refined sugar from just a few margaritas. So what, at least your fat and happy, right? Well, sugars also increase cellular inflammation, which can make your hangovers much worse. Avoid them with these amazing all-natural low and no sugar recipes. They are delicious, low-calorie and full of antioxidants. Also so darn refreshing to drink in the sunshine on a holiday weekend when you ain’t got no place to be. You’re welcome!

4. Hydrate

Now, before you give me the “No sh*t, Sherlock” look…hydration is NOT just about drinking water. Any idiot can drink water, but most of us still don’t do it. Commit to it by developing a schedule. Pick a water buddy and have 4 to 6 ounces between each drink. Pre-hydrate by having a coconut water before you start. Plan on drinking another before bed. Coconut water is awesome because it contains antioxidants and a ton of electrolytes. Fresh out of coconuts? One of the best sources of water and electrolytes you can get is FOOD. Fresh fruit is mostly water. And BONUS, you also get the phytonutrients that help detox your body and the minerals to replace what you lose in sweating. Other foods that are high in potassium? Unsalted nuts and seeds (also have vitamin E), bananas and there’s those MAGIC avocados again. I repeat: Hydration is not just about slugging down water; it’s about the timing, sticking to it and adding foods that help replace lost nutrients.

5. Supplement

Some of us are too lazy to make sure we eat a rainbow of colors at every meal. There is NO REPLACEMENT for good nutrition. However, on a day where you will probably be eating hot dogs, potato chips and cookies, a little supplement boost might not hurt. Pop a multivitamin with your pre-drinking meal to make sure your body is getting all the vitamins and minerals you need. Also, B-complex is cheap and it can really help when taken prior to drinking and before bed. I love a good Greens Powder supplement that supplies your basic greens and also a bunch of others that you would probably never eat, like seaweed, barley grass, spirulina and blue green algae. Many of them also contain probiotics, fruit extracts and herbs, all of which you get in one or two gulps. Some of them actually taste pretty good these days. Even if they don’t, a couple swallows and you’ll be happier in the morning. “That’s what she said….?” It goes without saying that Intox-Detox is THE BEST thing you can possibly take to help feel better tomorrow. Why is this? It breaks down the main toxin from alcohol that makes you feel MISERABLE the next morning, and it does it about 65% faster than you normally could. It’s all-natural, safe and effective. Don’t take my word for it, go grab a sample and see for yourself.

Thanks for checking out my article. I hope it helps. If you follow it to the letter, you will be up the next morning and ready to do it all over again!

Remember to always drink responsibly.

Not to mention that a few summer cocktails can add up in terms of calories quicker than you think.

We’ll tell you more about other strategies for avoiding hangovers in a second, but first let’s get straight to the recipe…

Blackberry Whiskey Lemonade the Intox-Detox and Zevia Way!

Summertime Drink Recipe

Here at Intox-Detox we love sharing great drink recipes, to be enjoyed of course moderately with a serving or two of Intox-Detox. Down in Florida where we are based, it’s getting mighty hot this time of year as summer fast approaches. A refreshing drink to enjoy on the beach is always a welcome addition. This Blackberry Whiskey Lemonade is delicious!

Props to Liquor.com for posting this awesome recipe, but we like to do things the Intox-Detox way. We think we have improved on it just a little bit. Here’s a link to the original article if you want to check it out…

We hate hangovers; and guzzling the white demon known as sugar can make your hangovers worse. Why is this? Sugar is highly inflammatory. The toxins from the alcohol are already causing cellular inflammation in the body. Any additional inflammatory substances will only make it worse. Not to mention, that the calories can really add up when you drink sugary beverages all day long. To learn more about how cellular inflammation contributes to hangovers and what you can do about it naturally, click here…

For this drink, we avoid the sugars by sweetening with Zevia sugar and calorie-free, all-natural sodas. See recipe below. Checkout their website and Facebook page to learn more about how they are changing soda into what it always should have been – a healthy refreshing beverage.

The good news is that this recipe contains blackberries, lemon juice and mint, all of which contain antioxidants that might help with inflammation. Let’s take a look…

Ingredients

  • 12 blackberries
  • 4 mint leaves
  • 3 oz. Irish Whiskey
  • 3 oz. lemon juice
  • Zevia Strawberry, Black Cherry or Lemon-Lime Twist

Instructions

Muddle the blackberries and mint (also Truvia simple syrup if you go that route) in a cocktail shaker until well combined.

Pour a splash of Zevia soda on top until it fizzes to bring out the flavors. If you don’t have Zevia, you can make simple syrup with Truvia and water. (Bring water to a boil and stir in Truvia until dissolved – 1/2 cup water to 3 1/2 Tablespoons Truvia. Then chill prior to use)

Add the Irish Whiskey and lemon juice to the shaker and fill it with ice.

Shake well to combine all ingredients and strain over two tall ice filled glasses.

Top off with Zevia soda and garnish with mint, blackberry and lemon slice. Check out all of the Zevia flavors and pick one or mix them for an even more unique lemonade drink.

How to Take Intox-Detox for Best Results – What if I Got a Hangover Anyway?

HANGOVERS SUCK!

Look, we all know hangovers suck. Nobody wants one. Yet so many of us get them. And it only gets worse as we get older. We were all 22 years old once; you’d stay up all night, do shots, mix every kind of drink like a cement grinder in your stomach, then chug a few glasses of water and wake up feeling okay – after a 10 to 12 hour nap that is. Who has time for that now?

Maybe you were never that resilient; some people never had that luxury. I however was. I didn’t even believe in hangovers until I was about 25. I also didn’t believe in getting fat when I was 17, when all I ate was pizza and burgers, all while rocking six-pack abs. No longer, those days are long gone. Young people are super humans because they own a commodity that none of us can cling to forever. It’s called youth.

For the rest of us, if you’re like me and enjoy a few drinks with friends on occasion, the hangover battle will be an ongoing struggle throughout your life. So if you’re not immortal, you better come up with another plan. That’s why I worked so hard to develop Intox-Detox. It’s not a “get-out-of-jail-free” card. It’s a natural way to prime your liver for the beating it takes when you drink, both by protecting your body and helping to alleviate tomorrow’s misery.

It’s not a magic pill; you have to know how to use it. Like a screwdriver, it’s a great tool and very useful, but it doesn’t do much for you if you hold it backwards; the handle isn’t going to budge the screw one iota.

It’s exactly the same for Intox-Detox. I was reminded of this fact when a very good friend mentioned that a mutual acquaintance had tried the product and “got a hangover anyway.” I always take personal responsibility for the .1 % of people we encounter who don’t have a good experience with Intox-Detox. A little further investigation revealed the real problem. She didn’t understand how to take the product properly. She was holding the screwdriver backwards. Or maybe she needed a different kind of tool altogether. There are multiple “tools” for nipping hangovers in the bud and a systematic approach is best. Go here to check out my ULTIMATE NO HANGOVER SECRET FORMULA…

So let’s take a moment to explore the “right” way to take Intox-Detox for best results.

How to Take Intox-Detox – Right Tool for the Right Job

We are going to assume that you are a moderate drinker and generally healthy; and in particular that you have a fully functioning liver and are not on any medication.

GENERAL RULE: Take 1 pack of Intox-Detox (all 4 capsules is one serving) for every four to six drinks or 4-6 hours, whichever comes first.

Many people who felt the product didn’t “work” the first time they used it, had outstanding results once they implemented this rule. If you are older, female, petite, a liquor lover or a “big drinker”, this especially applies to you. With age, our bodies produce less of the liver enzyme needed to break down alcohol’s toxins (acetaldehyde in particular). Females and older persons also have less of the L-Glutathione in their bodies needed to help neutralize the toxins in the blood and break them down in the liver.

So, here are a few typical scenarios to consider and how I would take Intox-Detox for best results. In no way is this an approval or indictment of these behaviors. I don’t tell people what to do with their lives, how to drink or what supplements to take. I’m merely sharing what has worked for me. Also, don’t drink and drive. Intox-Detox WILL NOT sober you up or prevent intoxication. Who would want it if it did?

  1. A Night Out – Intox-Detox works great for this. You go out for a meal with some friends and end up having drinks after at a restaurant or bar. As recommended in my No Hangover Secret Formula report, you prime your body with a meal that slows down the absorption of the alcohol and toxins. You take 1 pack of Intox-Detox within your first 2 or 3 drinks. After the 3rd drink most men and women have already begun to develop tomorrow’s hangover because it’s about then that your liver is losing the ability to keep up. The “Big Drinkers” among you may scoff, but this is absolutely true. If you have a higher tolerance, your body might be able to cope with a few more drinks, but you’re pushing your luck. You end up having 4 to 6 drinks socially and you head home for a few glasses of water to go to bed. By most standards that would be a pretty typical night out.
  2.  The After Party – Consider the above “Night Out” scenario, only you decide to keep it going instead of going home. Maybe it’s a Friday or Saturday and you want to keep the party going. Of course you’re NOT even considering touching a steering wheel! Don’t be a moron. UBER it or grab a cab to save lives and/or thousands of dollars in court fees. You decide to go to another bar, someone’s house or an “After Party”. It’s been 6 hours or 6 drinks, whatever came first, so you take another full package of Intox-Detox. Alternatively, you proceed to the next party, having a few more drinks and take another pack of ID before bed.
  3. The BBQ – Thinking of doing a little “day-drinking”? Let’s call it a Saturday or Sunday and you head to a friend’s house for a barbecue with a 12-pack of beer around 3 pm. You eat some burgers and dogs, washed down with a few cold beers. This is what you work so hard for the whole week, but the last thing you need is to cripple yourself tomorrow morning, especially if it’s a “school night”. As usual, take your ID before your 1st beer ideally, but certainly before you hit 3 or 4 drinks. Maybe it is Saturday and it’s a great party. You decide to go another round and turn it into a night. The Cards Against Humanity come out and your surrounded by good friends. Next thing you know it’s 8 pm. You grab another bite to eat and take another pack of ID. While it’s not recommended, maybe you’re having such a great time that you decide to go three rounds. the BBQ turned into a “Night Out” and now it’s morphing into an “After Party” – take one additional pack before you go to bed.

But Wait! Can I Take Too Much Intox-Detox?

Intox-Detox is all-natural and the human safety data on all the ingredients has been well-documented in the research. In fact, one human study used the equivalent of 3 packs of Intox-Detox with incredible results and no adverse effects. That being said, always consult with your physician anyway.

Anymore than the 3 packs recommended as a maximum intake would be a waste of money. There is no research showing any further benefit from taking more than that amount. And, large amounts of any food-based ingredient could potentially give you a stomach ache if you overdo it. If you want a painful example, eat 10 oranges or multiple bananas and call me from the bathroom. ANYTHING can make you sick if you overindulge, especially alcohol!

Other Considerations

  1. Occasion? – If you’re going to a wedding, Irish funeral, bachelor or bachelorette party, you better just assume it’s more than a simple “night out” and take 1 pack when you start and 1 before bed.
  2. What’s your poison? – If you drink hard liquor, especially shots, especially especially cheap liquor and expect to be switching back and forth between different kinds of drinks, you better err on the side of taking more Intox-Detox.
  3. Marathon or sprint? – Are you in for the long haul? Is it an all-inclusive on the beach in Mexico or a music festival like Stagecoach, where attendees have been known to drink all day for 3 days straight in the middle of the desert? Either way, you better have a couple of extra packs on you. It goes without saying that you can’t sprint a marathon. Pick your battles and know your limits. Which leads to the next point, which is very personal…
  4. Know thyself! – You know what your kryptonite is. For some of us it’s red wine. Others can’t handle whiskey, gin, champagne. If you know a particular drink doesn’t sit well with your body, do yourself a favor and avoid it all together. If you know you’re a lightweight, don’t think that popping a pack of Intox-Detox is going to change that.
  5. The morning after pills – If all else fails and you didn’t read this blog before you tried Intox-Detox, you can always take another pack when you wake up. Whatever you did to your poor body, the ingredients in Intox-Detox will enhance detoxification, energize, improve alertness and help shield your liver against toxins. In short, they will get you back on your feet sooner. Anecdotal reports universally claim that within 45 to 60 minutes of taking Intox-Detox the morning after you should feel much better.

Basically, it all comes down to common sense. Alcohol can be dangerous. It can also be fun. The whole point of Intox-Detox is maximizing the fun, while helping to protect from the danger and making the experience more enjoyable by minimizing the pain.

Once you learn how to use Intox-Detox the way it is intended, I know you will enjoy it. I bet my whole life on it. Yes, I’m the guy that devoted his life to trying to fix hangovers for the average Joe or Jill who just likes to have a few drinks with his or her friends. Before you criticize Intox-Detox for not “working”, learn how to use it. Turn the screwdriver around or you won’t be screwing anything. You’ll just get screwed.

Here’s to a better tomorrow for all,

Andy Bennett

Hangovers suck! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it probably at least a million times more: a hangover is not caused by DEHYDRATION, SUGARS or CONGENERS. These things make hangovers worse. Think gasoline on the fire. Not the fuel that makes the fire of your own personal hell burn the day after a few too many. If you want to learn what exactly causes a hangover and how to fix it, go here.

Today our focus is singular. Here are 6 awesome low-sugar alcoholic libations that can spare your waistline and keep the sugars down, so that you don’t pour to much extra gasoline on the fire. 4. Cranberry Lime Tart

The recipe below is for a pitcher, so this one might just be your new party favorite. The red cranberries and green limes could make a great seasonal punch for those holiday parties. Both are also full of antioxidants that can help ward off the dreaded holiday party hangover. Highly recommend Just Cranberry or another pure, not-from-concentrate cranberry juice.

Need something a little more “summery”. Just because this next one contains bitters that doesn’t mean it tastes that way…

blood orange G & T

5. Blood Orange G&T

This slight variation on a classic G&T adds orange bitters and fresh blood orange juice. Gin lovers unite! Most of today’s drinkers are strangers to bitters; and that’s a darn shame because they are awesome. I recommend you drop the orange slice in with the blood orange juice and bitters and muddle briefly before adding the gin and tonic water. That will really bring out the flavor of the the oranges.

Not a gin fan? This next one is highly flexible. It works with almost any liquor of your choosing…

6. Zevia Moscow Mule

The Moscow Mule is quickly becoming a new fan favorite everywhere. Sub bourbon for vodka and  you have yourself a Kentucky Mule. Best of all, you save on calories by using half Zevia Ginger Ale and half ginger beer. Barritt’s makes a decent sugar-free ginger beer if you really want to keep the calories low, but it’s not all-natural like Zevia.

So there you have it – 6 awesome low-calorie and low-sugar drinks to get you through the end of the year. Any bartender worth his or her salt will tell you that quality liquors and fresh ingredients are the path to avoiding hangovers.

We agree, with the exception that we know based on the science that even the highest-grade poison is still poison. Any drink can give you a hangover. Drinks with artificial sweeteners and high sugar content can definitely make your hangover much worse.

Avoid all of that noise by taking your Intox-Detox before you party. It contains clinically proven Japanese raisin and Setria L-Glutathione to help to detox, recover and protect your body from the damaging effects of alcohol.

Gin Gimlet – Sugar-Free + Intox-Detox = a Healthier Better Tomorrow

alcoholic mixed drinks gin gimlet

Last week we shared one of our favorite lower-sugar alcoholic drink recipes, the no-sugar added Pina Colada. If you missed it, go check it out at http://intox-detox.com/pina-colada-recipe-intox-detox-fav-alcoholic-mixed-drinks/

Today, we offer another classic with a new twist, this time for all you gin lovers. However, if if you don’t like gin, this one might be worth a go. We have actually made this for people who “don’t drink gin” and they absolutely loved it. As always, we are keeping the sugar to a minimum. In this case it’s virtually zero. Sure, there are minute amounts of sugar in the lime juice, but, for all intents and purposes, it’s about as sugar-free as you can get. And don’t forget all natural too.

When we developed the Intox-Detox product, it had to be all natural; and we wouldn’t accept anything less. Intox-Detox is vegan, non-GMO, gluten-free and made in America. Let’s get on with the recipe all ready. These are technically in the family of classic martini cocktails and can be enjoyed day or night. Just be careful because they can sneak up on you.

Gin Gimlet Sugar-Free

What You Need

-1.5 to 2 shots gin

-1 shot of fresh squeezed lime juice

-3-4 packets of Truvia or Monk fruit extract (preferably half and half)

-1/2 teaspoon orange extract

-Lime wedge garnish

What You Do

Pack a shaker full of ice. Add gin, lime juice, optional orange extract and sweetener, 2 packets Truvia + 2 packets Monk fruit extract and 1/2 shot water or lemon/lime flavored soda water. If you like your drinks more “fresh” and not so sweet, use only 3 packets of sweetener. Shake vigorously for at least 30 seconds. Strain into a fancy martini glass, or any old cup for that matter. Garnish with a lime, cherry optional. If you absolutely can’t stomach the gin, you can substitute vodka for a milder less “ginny” taste. For a simpler prep, with no shaker, you can make this drink stirred, not shaken. Just put all the ingredients into a glass with ice and stir thoroughly. In for a long night? Make it a double in a 12 to 16 oz glass!

Happy Friday and don’t forget to take Intox-Detox for a better tomorrow.

Pina Colada Recipe – Intox-Detox Fav Alcoholic Mixed Drinks

pina-colada-alcoholic-mixed-drinks

Here at Intox-Detox, we love our cocktails. Actually we never met a drink we didn’t like. Well, that’s not entirely true… We have met a few drinks we didn’t like, but we never hold a grudge! Hold tight and we will share a drink recipe that will change your life! No seriously, it will.

The problem with a lot of cocktails is that they are often loaded with sugar. And this tropical favorite – the Pina Colada – is no exception. Not only will sugar bulge your waist-line, but it’s also highly inflammatory, which could make your hangover even worse if you over do it.

Years ago, Intox-Detox CEO Andy Bennett set out on a quest to find great alcoholic mixed drinks that taste great, yet contain lower or zero sugar. After all, if you are going to be indulging in sugar, save it for something really good like a piece of cake or a big old chocolate chip cookie. This recipe is one of his favorites. It is not entirely sugar or fat-free because coconut and pineapple inevitably contain some natural sugars and fats. However, these things are loaded with antioxidants and help to give you energy. They are unlikely to make you “fat” the way traditional Pina Coladas will; these contain large amounts of both fat and added sugars. Without further ado, here is your first Intox-Detox recipe…

The No-Sugar-Added All-Natural Pina Colada

What You Need

-1 to 1.5 shots Light Rum (we like Cruzan)

-1 shot of Organic Coconut milk – make sure you get the one in a can in the Asian food section of the grocery store.

-1/2 tablespoon Truvia

-1/2 tablespoon Monk Fruit Extract

-1/2 cup frozen pineapple

-One all-natural dye-free maraschino cherry for garnish

-Black or dark rum to float on top (optional)

*Makes 1 drink. Since Pina Coladas go best with friends on the beach, make sure to scale up for your party. Most conventional blenders will do 6 to 8 drinks max at one time.

What You Do

Add all ingredients to a blender. Spiced or dark rum can be used in place of light rum, but we like to save that for the float at the end! For your calorie free sweetener, you can go with just Truvia or Monk Fruit if you don’t have both. However, the reason Zevia makes outstanding sugar-free sodas is because they mix the two. (If you don’t know about them, you better figure it out because their rainbow of flavors will appear frequently in our drink recipes to come) Blend for 30 to 45 seconds. Pour into a fancy glass, preferably with a colorful little umbrella. Garnishing with cherry is highly recommended, while the pineapple and orange slice skewered on one of those little plastic swords is totally optional. Float your dark rum on top; Myers, Black Seal or even the Kraken works wonders for that!

Happy blending! Enjoy and don’t forget to take your Intox-Detox!
